Take action

The Community’s most powerful tool is to be heard by decision makers. We suggest you:

1. Call or write to MPs asking for localised planning for densification without 10min walkable zones, that is sustainable &
strategically planned with a process involving local councils & community to deliver housing in liveable communities
that is genuinely affordable.

  • Victorian ALP MPs who represent Boroondara (or parts of): Matt Fregon, Ryan Batchelor, John Berger.

Also consider writing to the Minister for Planning Sonya Kilkenny and Premier Jacinta Allan

  • Cross bencher Katherine Copsey (Greens)
  • Opposition MPs who represent Boroondara: John Pesutto, Jess Wilson, David Davis & Georgie Crozier
  • Federal MP for Kooyong, Dr Monique Ryan (Independent)

2. Write to the Mayor and your Ward Councillor at Boroondara Council. You may wish to copy all Councillors.

Contact details for MPs and Councillors are provided below.. Find you Councillor and Ward here

Ask for publicity from individual Councillors. Why have Councillors whose wards are affected by these significant
changes not written to you or posted on their Council social media?

3. Be counted & informed – Join BCG’s Facebook group for up to date information and relevant media links here,
follow us on Instagram at Boroondara Community Group or register for email updates from BCG here.

4. Sign the e-PETITION to Parliament asking the Government to pause the Activity Centre program and consult
councils and communities. (New version coming soon.)

5. Spread the word within Boroondara and beyond – awareness is low & everyone should have the opportunity to
learn and form a view

With 130 activity centres across Melbourne (only the first 60 have been identified) the Government’s Activity Centre
Program involves redeveloping Melbourne into a city where apartments will be the dominant form of housing to
accommodate a population of 8 million by 2050. This scale of change has not been undertaken anywhere in the world
and will change the fabric of life in Melbourne. The suburban character and lifestyle that was recognised when
Melbourne won the “Most Liveable City” award for seven consecutive years will disappear.

6. Talk to neighbours, family, friends & groups you belong to, parents at school/kinder drop-off, your sporting club.

Explain that although the Government says “heritage overlays will remain”, heritage precincts are at risk of demolition &
3-6 storey apartments will be built in them.
