What we want

Boroondara should grow, but in a way that protects heritage, neighbourhood character, tree canopy and liveability, and is planned collaboratively rather than imposed by the State. We want more housing including diverse, affordable, public and social homes when it is council‑led, locally contextual, environmentally responsible and subject to proper community consultation. We oppose the Victorian Government’s current reforms, as blanket rezoning for 3–6 storey apartments in low‑rise streets, high‑rise towers in activity centres, weakened heritage protections, reduced building standards, and the removal of objection and appeal rights will not deliver genuinely affordable housing and will instead erode the qualities that make Boroondara liveable. Density done well requires thoughtful, transparent, evidence‑based planning not rushed, generic, one‑size‑fits‑all changes.
