- If the Minister for Planning approves a “Great Design” zoned height & setbacks can be
exceeded. You have no right to object or go to VCAT - the Minister for Planning can vary planning rules if developer offers 10% affordable
housing (in cash or dwellings). You have no right to object or go to VCAT
In any General Residential Zone within 800m of a train station
- Generic pre-approved apartment designs up to 3 storeys. No right to object or go to VCAT.
Lower building standards for all townhouses & apartments up to 6 storeys
- Homes much closer together, less privacy, solar overshadowing allowed, reduced tree
canopy, heritage loss, hotter streets & less overall liveability
No objections or review at VCAT
- You have no right to object and go to VCAT if a developer’s townhouse / apartment plan
meets code – Council has to issue a permit
- Minimal funding for new infrastructure & upgrades
- 65,500 new homes by 2051 (90% increase)
- Boroondara Council’s plans for more housing overridden
- Loss of heritage
- Planning permits issued in breach of restrictive covenants
